The exhaust valves of internal combustion engines are subject not only to mechanical degradation from impact and sliding stresses, but also hot corrosion by the products of combustion. In diesel engines hot corrosion is a particularly acute problem, especially if low grade fuels are used.
To maintain efficient engine operation, it is vital that engine valves are protected against such wear. Stellite® 6, Stellite® F & Tribaloy® are common place in the automotive valve industry.
